Inspired by the patterns of the bathroom floor in his parents’ home when growing up and by his sister’s 90s mousepad which graces the cover, Industries’ new EP Randomised Structures finds the artist revisiting his first teenage electronic experiments. Like tracing the patterns of the bathroom floor, he is finding structures in two of his old tracks (Patterns and Scollage) using them as source material to craft new music (Pulsating Pattern and Sculpted Collage), randomising the structures of the past and integrating them into the present.

Thank you Keith Bloody Mary for being up for this experiment. I dissected an old track of mine called Scollage which I made when I was 16, cut it into many samples which I used as percussive elements over a simple techno beat and bit by bit I added layers to it, sculpting a sonic collage in a playful and associate way. Keith Bloody Mary also uses collage as artistic method, but this is their first music video and also my first music video created by someone else. We hope you enjoy.

I am excited to announce Randomised Structures, the first EP in a series of releases in which I will reintegrate old tracks of mine into the present. When I was around 16 I recorded five albums that were improvised and barely edited. Now I am using them as source material to craft new music, representing the here and now.
To celebrate the release, there will be an EP launch event at PINK Manchester on December 10th from 7 pm with support from Gary Fisher and Snuggle Ninja. In my live set I will mix stems of my old tracks with recent and new ones, randomising the structures that were before to create something new. Get your tickets here.

Industries is an electronic music project by Markus Hetheier. His music explores and subverts musical structures ranging from field recordings and distorted sounds to harmonic melodies and large beats. He is also a practice-based PhD researcher at the School of Digital Arts (SODA).
Norrisette is an art-pop artist whose work encompasses composition, classical piano, music production, DJing, performance and visual design. She has recently formed her own band to explore new creative and collaborative landscapes, with Ashley Garrod on bass and Matthew Hill on drums, and has also performed as a featured vocalist across Europe.
Together, they set up FLUFF – a regular queer electronica night in Manchester. FLUFF aims to provide a platform for queer electronic music producers to perform and test out original music to a live audience, as opposed to being a club night, and has kickstarted the careers of many.
In this workshop you will learn about DIY culture and FLUFF and how you can use DIY as concept and method to kickstart your music project in your community. Industries and Norrisette will share their learnings in the form of a DIY toolkit with the aim to inspire participants to reflect on their artistic ambitions, communities they are part of and how these communities can help them to achieve their goals. These reflections will then be turned into action points which the participants can take away and realise after the workshop.
Expect this workshop to be a creative and interactive space where you will meet new people and potential collaborators!

Thank you Fat Out for inviting FLUFF to Islington Mill this year. Meme Gold performed a magical and introspective set. Snuggle Ninja brought joy and smiles to people’s faces. Summer’s Groove took us on a sonic journey through various vibes and moods. SEZBENNY merged electronic music with her flute playing and the result sounded groovy and beautiful. thisvibrantbody served beats, energy and made us dance. I also enjoyed playing a DJ set with some of my own productions.
